Stockholm Free World Forum organized its second Transatlantic Periscope seminar. With President Donald Trump’s first month in office shaking the basic foundations of the transatlantic alliance, discussion focused on the future of European security.
Anthony Silberfeld, Director of Transatlantic Relations at the Bertelsmann Foundation, gave a sober assessment on the state of American checks-and-balances and weakening commitment to European security.
Minna Ålander, non-resident senior Fellow at Stockholm Free World Forum, argued that while it’s fair and necessary to ask Europe to do more for its own security, the US administration’s recent antagonism of Europe is wholly different than previous periods of isolation.
Gunnar Hökmark, Chair of Stockholm Free World Forum, spoke about how US tariffs and a potential trade war would make America smaller, not greater, on the global stage.
Discussion was moderated by Anna Rennéus Guthrie, Director of Stockholm Free World Forum.
