Internship at the McCain Institute, Washington DC – fall semester 2014

Macain-instituteStockholm Free World Forum in cooperation with the McCain Institute in Washington DC offers an outstanding volunteer opportunity for college students, graduate students, and graduates focusing on international relations who are pursuing a career in foreign policy or a related field.

The McCain Institute was created to address the key issues shaping national security and foreign policy. Through its policy research, events, fellow programs, and other activities, the Institute aims to inform, convene, train and assist current and future leaders from the United States and abroad. The Institute is guided by values that have animated the career of Senator John McCain, namely:

  • Sustaining US global leadership
  • Upholding freedom, democracy, and human rights as universal human values
  • Supporting humanitarian goals
  • Maintaining a strong, smart national defense
  • Serving causes greater than self-interest

 
The Institute seeks in cooperation with Stockholm Free World Forum one intern for the fall 2014 semester (starts in early to mid-August 2014 and end in mid-December 2014) to provide research and administrative support to various members of the Institute. As an intern you will help produce courses on leadership and ethics, develop digital marketing strategies and communication plans, participate in drawing up policy briefs and proposals. You will also be introduced to pundits and decision makers and gain invaluable experiences in policymaking.

Eligible to apply are students enrolled at a Swedish university or college with a completed Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. political science, international relations, security studies, etc.) The position is unpaid.

Qualified applicants will have superior writing, editing and research skills. Applicants with orientation and understanding of current affairs in foreign policy, but knowledge of human rights, development issues and security studies are preferred. English fluency (verbal and written) is required. Applicants must be comfortable interacting with high-level policy experts and government officials. Applicants should have the ability to work independently, proactively and as part of a team.
