On the 14th of december Patrik Oksanen, Senior Fellow at Stockholm Free World Forum, wrote an article about the resurfacing of the Nato debate in Sweden for the EUobserver. With the Sweden Democrats now supporting the idea of declaring that Sweden could join Nato, our position has come to liken that of Finland which uses the Nato-option as a “bear-scarer”. Meaning deterring potential russian aggression.
So hold your horses, Sweden is not applying to join Nato tomorrow – but the parliament might pressure the government to get the same bear-scarer as Finland. And that is something good in itself.
