Over the past decade, foreign influence in strategic industries, sectors, and critical infrastructure within the EU has grown exponentially. The international research community today grapples with the conflicting values of academic freedom and national security. To address this, Stockholm Free World Forum, in collaboration with the Institute for Security & Development Policy (ISDP) and the United States Embassy in Stockholm, hosted the breakfast seminar “Building Democratic Resilience: Protecting Institutions from Authoritarian Influence”. The seminar centred on the challenges posed by foreign malign influence in research, academia, politics, and business, with an emphasis on malign PRC influence.
The seminar convened North American and Swedish experts and professionals in the field. We also had the pleasure of welcoming three distinguished speakers with unique experiences and insights on the topic:
Glenn Tiffert, Distinguished Research fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University.
Niklas Swanström, Executive Director, ISDP.
Gunnar Hökmark, Chairman, Stockholm Free World Forum.
After the seminar, Anna Rennéus Guthrie, director Stockholm Free World Forum, and Glenn Tiffert recorded a podcast on the seminar’s theme. The episode will be available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts shortly.
