European security challenges are rapidly evolving, from rising geopolitical tensions to hybrid threats and energy dependencies, and the Nordic countries play a central role in securing Europe’s northern borders and strengthening NATO’s deterrence in the region. The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s (KAS) conference “Nordic Security in a Changing European Context”, held in Stockholm on November 5, 2025, brought together politicians, security experts, policymakers, and analysts to discuss how the Nordic countries can enhance regional cooperation, develop strategic foresight, and contribute to a more resilient European security architecture.
Frivärld took part in several parts of the conference. Chairman Gunnar Hökmark delivered a keynote address, Frivärld’s Director Anna Rennéus Guthrie moderated the panel “A Resilient Europe”, and Senior Fellow Minna Ålander participated in the panel “Safeguarding Europe’s North: The Baltic Sea and Arctic.”
Key themes included military security in the Baltic Sea and Arctic regions, as well as how Germany and the Nordic countries can jointly contribute to a comprehensive strategy for Europe.
