In Washington, D.C. there is an ongoing debate about what the United States’ role in the world is and what it should be. Raised voices argue that we now live in an exceptional time that will affect history for many years. Since President Obama is not likely to make any significant foreign policy changes before his term ends, the focus now lies on the strategic decisions that the next president will have to deal with.
In short, the US needs to think about what type of role it will have in the world and the strategies it will pursue. In the report “A More Determined U.S.? Foreign policy and the next American president” Albin Aronsson describes the different paths that the U.S. can take in world politics and analyzes the implications for each one.

Albin Aronsson holds a bachelors degree in political science from Uppsala University. He specializes in international relations, strategy and security. He has been a contributor to the Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C. where he worked with international security issues focusing on NATO and Europe. He is the author of the SFWF report “The Clash of Civilizations and its Relevance Today” (2014).
