Latvian PM Krišjānis Kariņš spoke about Latvia’s and Europe’s challenges

Latvian PM Dr. Krišjānis Kariņš spoke at the Stockholm Free World Forum on June 27. Sweden and Latvia share a common history, interrupted, in Kariņš words, by a “50 year break” of Soviet occupation. Kariņš spoke about the Russian threat to regional security and the importance of maintaining and strengthening economic openness at a time when protectionism is on the rise.

“Climate change, threats to the international rules-based order, cross-border financial crimes [are] challenges of the 21st Century that countries cannot cope alone with. We have to keep Europe United and internal borders open”, Kariņš said.

The event was moderated by Gunnar Hökmark, President of the Stockholm Free World Forum.
