Russian Activity Tracker: Nordic-Baltic Region
The Russian Activity Tracker is a collaborative project between Frivärld (Stockholm Free World Forum) and The McCain Institute at Arizona State University in the form of a spatially-oriented time line of actions attributed to Russia that occurred in the Nordic-Baltic Region* between October 1st, 2016 and November 9th, 2018.
The Russian Activity Tracker details and illustrates 79 Russian actions of political, diplomatic, economic and military character. The project also includes 271 intercepts of Russian aircraft** by the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission during the time frame of the project.
The actions included in the Russian Activity Tracker were directly or indirectly conducted by the Russian state, including state-owned, state-controlled and state-friendly enterprises, and deviate from standard peacetime procedures or routine military operations.
The Russian Activity Tracker is a continuation of data covering the time periods of 1999-2014 and 2015-2016. The actions are visually presented in chronological order to highlight trends of Russian activity in the region.
* Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia
** Air intercepts from NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission are shown quarterly, and do not include intercepts from airspace violations
